Our new cooker...

I have known for some months our cooker was dying on me, then last week the oven temperature dropped so low I could not bake a cake!!

So I was forced to buy a new one online!!
What one do I buy? As I get older I have a love hate relationship with shopping.
Well eventually I found one or I believe it found me as I was browsing for something else when I come across this cooker.
I loved it, bought it.
It arrived today :) I have to say its very well built, a good heavy, sturdy cooker :)
Nice colour too!

I spend a lot of my time home baking , I  have a lovely recipe in the waiting for a noir chocolate gateau :)

Its getting windy outside tonight, feeling the autumn chill. Friday we have our wood burner flue cleaned, so we will be able to light a small fire when needed.
I love Autumn :)

Wishing you all a lovely evening xx

My Elderberry cuttings...

This year in the village I picked lots of elderberries, I have read a lot about their  medicinal properties.
I took cuttings from the mother tree that was laden with the berries and was in the sun.
They have been on my kitchen windowsill for nearly two weeks, they are now showing growth, so, I will pot them up at the weekend and move them in the greenhouse, ready for planting in the garden in October :)

I ordered this book off Amazon for 1 pence and free delivery!!

Tonight's Blessings my elderberry cuttings. xx

Our sunday afternoon...

I can feel Autumn in the air, that slight chill. I really could of stayed at home today but having been home most of the week, I felt a little cabin fever!!

Our cooker died this week, I can still use the gas rings on top and the oven works but I could not get enough heat to bake a cake!! I have ordered a new one which will arrive Tuesday :) Our chimney gets swept on Friday so we will be able to light the wood burner.

So this afternoon we went for a walk in a lovely village on the outskirts of town, I spent many lovely times in this village as a child as my aunt and uncle live there :)

As we passed this delightful cottage, you could smell the roast beef dinner, it smelt mouth watering!!
I did not realise the kitchen door open until after I took the photo, I don't think they saw me ;)
We stopped for a drink in the local pub and there was an outdoor kitchen that they had recently built, its something we plan to build in our garden next year, it gave me room for thought :)
Wishing you all a lovely week :) xx

A busy week...

Over the last few years I have been working on running our little household using homemade cleaning products. I have been researching this for a long time now.
I know you can read many bloggers sharing their tips and my blog is no more special than the next one.
I am totally loving cleaning my home with my routine and concoctions.
The other day in my herbal and natural shop that I use I found this wonderful product...

I have been using different vinegars for different jobs in the home for the last 3 years. I have to say this product is the best I have ever used. I use it neat in the bathroom and dilute half and half in the kitchen, its brilliant on chrome and lime scale!!!

I am also making my own fabric conditioner, I peeled a lemon, picked rosemary, mint, eucalyptus leaves and geranium leaves and a rose flower from our garden, I gently rubbed them in my hands to bruise them and put everything in a jar, I filled it with the cheapest distilled white vinegar. Let it sit for 24 hours and strain into a clean jar. I use a 1/4 of a cup in the last rinse on my laundry cycle, it is truly beautifull!!
I make different ones all the time, I use what ever is at hand in the garden :)

This week was our middle daughters 30th birthday, it feels like only last week that I gave birth to this beautiful daughter Jade.
We all met at our Jades home as she is 6 months pregnant with her second child ;)

Our eldest daughter Zoe bringing her sister the cake,

I am playing with my grandson Little Lou, I am blowing in his ear :)
My dear dad...

My two youngest grandchildren, our Oscar and Eliza playing lovely together :)

This is my eldest granddaughter Eva, she is such a beautiful girl, very independent yet she has a beautiful innocence about her. Eva starts secondary  school next week and I already know that she is going to do well at school...lord willing.
I am so blessed to have such a lovely family xx
I am reading a book at the moment, its more like a diary, at the end of her daily writings she writes her blessing of her day, I like this idea, so I am going to try to do this with my posts :)
Todays blessing, my family :) xx

Bank holiday Monday...

Bank holiday Monday, it nearly always rains on a bank holiday weekend but today the sun was shining, in fact it was a little too hot for me. ;)
We decided to take a drive out to Ely an old fen town, we took louies works van. I love going in the van, over the years when we have gone for drives we have made our plans, talked about our children, I have shared any worries I might have had at the time, by the time we arrived home, louie would always have given me his words of wisdom and I always felt any load was halved.

our drive

you can see Ely's famous Cathedral in the distance...

I show him the garden and tea room in the grounds of the cathedral, I go here with our daughter Jade :)

How I love him :)
There was a lovely market, I spied this lovely little stall, I didn't buy anything but it was lovely to look and get ideas :)

We found another lovely stall where we bought our eldest daughter Zoe a little present...

A lovely little trip, once home I went in the garden to see what needed picking, I was able to use my dress as an apron and pick my tomatoes, they were still warm from the sun!! :)
Thanking him for a lovely day xx
Prayers tonight for those caught up in storm Harvey in Texas xx

The end of August!!!!

Where did August go!!!
Life seems busy at the moment, the garden keeps me busy with the fruit and veg that I grow. I have been picking Elderberries, I de-stem them, wash them and pack them for the freezer.
The blackberries and raspberries are slowly coming to an end, they are becoming mushy.
I am grateful that I have managed to fill a large drawer of berries in our freezer.

I am now picking plums and freezing them :)

now to wash and freeze them

The freezer is getting full and I am running out of space, I have apples and pears to pick yet!!

Our grandchildren came over yesterday, our Eliza covered her eyes to count :)

I think she looks like her nanny in this picture :)
They love our swing under the apple tree
Such a lovely day :) xx
