Harvest time and canning...

Our apple trees are laden with their harvest, I kept looking at them from the kitchen window thinking can I use these wonderful produce? I have been reading about canning for some time so last week I went into town and bought my jars suitable for canning.
Saturday was a beautiful warm autumn day so I decided to pick as many apples as I could, I filled my laundry basket up twice,
Don't they look lovely?
I even love the cans, I washed them by hand and gave them a good rinse,
I decided to sterilise my jars and lids in the oven, I met a lovely lady in Lakeland's when I was buying my jar's, she told me that her and her family lived in a very rural area and with five children her and her husband had been canning their home grown produce for many years. I found her fascinating and would loved to have taken her home for a week or two!!! She gave me a few bits of advice and went on to say how she sterilises her jar's in the oven.

I canned six jar's and juiced two jar's to put in the fridge.

I was so thrilled with my first attempt :)
Yesterday I went for a walk over the fields down the bottom of our lane, the photo below is outside our home,

I walked along the side of the fields,

The hedgerows fruits were in abundance, I picked blackberries, eyed up some rose hips that look ready for picking which I cannot do until later in the week, hopefully no one else will notice them before hand :))
Do you see the sloe's?
I picked a large tray of blackberries, then weighed them and put them in freezer bags to freeze.
Last week was our eldest daughters birthday, Louie gave me money to take our girls out for lunch, Zoe got to choose where.
Zoe's birthday picture with her sister's...( Zoe is on the left)
This last picture is of my two big girls saying goodbye, they just adore each other,
I am 52 yrs of age this week and very much in my menopause, I am going to make time to write a post on the changes I have made that have had a very positive affect on my life on a health level and have also made the menopause much more comfortable, I can only share my journey as I go through my day to day living and if it helps others then that's all the better. God Bless x

Sleepover at nanies...

I love this time of year! Friday afternoon I picked our granddaughter Eva up from school, that was an experience! A warm Friday afternoon traffic in the centre of town, I sat stuck in traffic feeling very trapped and thinking how relieved I felt allowing myself plenty of time to arrive at the school. I could not live in town now after living village life for the last eight years.
Eva stayed over Friday night until Saturday afternoon, we went down to our land and picked our lovely red apples for juicing.
We filled our bowl and headed for the kitchen, I had given Eva a new apron that one of our polish students bought me as a present. She loved it :)
Eva operated the juicer while I washed and cut any insect holes from the apples,
I love working with this lovely girl, finally we bottle her juice she was thrilled and chilled it in the fridge to have with breakfast the next morning.
After all this hard work we went for a walk down the lane to see the horses, someone in the village has hung a swing under a tree for children to play on, we had to try it out.

So much to learn :)

I have spent this week doing my normal chores, baking when I can, I picked some damsons from a tree near our lane. I already had some organic plums that I bought from our market at the weekend so I made a plum bake which Louie absolutely loved!

I also made a damson and plum crumble, which I put in the freezer,
I have been reading about canning fruit and fruit juice (apple), we have two large apple trees on our land one is a cooking apple and the other a eating apple (dessert). Late this afternoon I went down the garden and picked a colander full, I used the photo I took as my blog photo. I washed and juiced the apples then strained them, my word the juice tasted wonderful, this made my heart sing.
I am now going to can the juices in jars from the remaining apples, by using this method the juice will keep all winter. I have wanted to learn about canning for along time, where will it lead??
This weekend I am going to make homemade Rhubarb ice cream, I have not yet decided what I will serve with it.
I can feel autumn is around the corner, my favourite season, I have made arrangements with our chimney sweep to clean the chimney so we can light the wood burner when it gets chilly.x

Starting to get straight

This past week really overwhelmed me, with the upheaval of our kitchen being out of action for most of the week due to the decorating, we are slowly starting to get things back in order...thankfully!
Below is a photo I took last Thursday,
I managed to pick some French beans from our raised beds, I washed them, top and tailed them and put them in the freezer, I also made a Harvest Apple cake using the apples off our tree.

I spent Saturday straightening up the kitchen, I still have more to do but the decorating is finished and we do have some kind of order.
Today Louie and I spent the day together, the sun was shining so we went for a drive into town and walked around the market square.
Early this evening our two big girls came over with their babies for a visit, our girls thought the kitchen looks pretty. I am  looking forward  this week to catching up with my baking, cleaning and gardening.

Before I end my post for this evening I urge you to give a thought and a prayer for so many suffering in the world today, God Bless x

This is our kitchen this evening!
I feel so overwhelmed, to add to this Louie does not like my Raspberry wall, I have asked him to trust me and wait until the room is finished and everything is back in place. The yellow wall in the top photo is going to have wallpaper which will soften the raspberry. Everywhere has had a first coat and tomorrow the second coat goes on.
I will keep myself busy tomorrow and deep clean upstairs, I am missing my baking.
