Working in the Garden...

What a beautiful spring day!
I have waited all week to spend the weekend in the garden, so this morning I was up bright and early as there was so much to do. I cut the grass in the garden and noticed a couple of strawberry plants had a bit of snail or slug damage but I have been saving my egg shells in a jar and had plenty of shells to put around the base of my plants.
I noticed one of my Raspberry plants had come into leaf.

Now a funny thing happened, I had four Rhubarb plants to plant in. I was arranging them in place to see where I wanted them when I thought about my Lovely Nan, the only edible plants Nan grew in the garden was Rhubarb and Mint yet I can never remember her baking anything with Rhubarb in it and she always planted the Mint in the ground and would say " Damn nuisance  gets everywhere". I never knew her to use mint either!! So there I was laughing to myself going about my business when I saw this...

MINT! Poking out the corner of my raised the ground! Now I never planted this and I have no mint in the garden Maybe there was a seed in the top soil I put in the raised bed last April or maybe she has visited my garden, it made me smile but it has got to come out before it takes hold.

Louie came home from work at lunch time he then made himself egg and bacon which smelt mouth watering and then came out in the garden to help me plant two fruit trees. Our land looked a bit messy after the bonfires but we soon made a start on the clear up.

While Louie was cutting the grass I was raking up the mess the bonfires had made. Then we planted two fruit trees a Pear and a "Apple cider" Apple tree.

Milly came out she must have smelt Louie's bacon as she has been resting for a couple of day's with a nasty virus. She sits on the swing looking a little weak and tired.

Our Milly is not green fingered at all but she asks me if she can have a job to do, she does some weeding under our apple tree.

She puts the crushed egg shells around the strawberry plants for me.

We have a family run garden centre in the next village, after our work was done for today Milly came with me to the garden centre. I told her to choose a tree as we have room for three more trees...she chose a Mulberry tree and I bought a Grapevine.
Tonight I shall read up about my buys today.
Of course before I finish tonight's post there has to be another photo of my laundry on the line today!! :))

Feeling grateful for such a beautiful day. God Bless my friends x

  1. Oh, this color print is much better. Many thanks

  2. Your laundry line looks colorful and bright in the afternoon sun. What a sweet story about the mint. Hope your daughter feels better soon. I have been sick with a respiratory infection for weeks.

    1. Yes the respiratory virus is everywhere here, so many people are struggling with it, its that mild winter we had which was damp. Hope you feel better soon, so lovely to have you back x

  3. The mint story made me smile. I grow mint in containers, several varieties so that they don't spread everywhere. It seems to work. I love having bedding that has been dried on the line, the smell is amazing.

    1. I am going to pot up some herbs next weekend. Thank you for your lovely comments they are so appreciated x
